I like the warthog's looks, especially with sharkmouth.

All airplanes are beautiful to me, but any with weapons are gorgeous.

Hello hello hello, McDonnell Douglas F-4 Phantom II would like a say in the matter.

I can't believe it took 29 posts for the F4 to be entered.  It's testosterone shaped into an aircraft.

Its a chunky design. Sure it looked good at the time but newer is better, though not too new. I still think the Europeans got it just right, all of the newer fifth gen planes are kinda ugly except for the raptor.

Those are all well and good but the Tomcat is still the best. :P

And this VF-213 bird was one of the best of the best.

Love the P-51 Mustang.

Also a favorite the FB-111 Ardvark.

Here's the thing with the Tomcat. When it was retired in 2006 it went out at the top of it's game. In many ways it was superior to the fighter that replaced it. Politics, Darth Cheney, mismanagement by the Navy, and the Tomcat Community itself essentially killed the Tomcat in the 1990's. It just took 16 years for those mistakes to catch up with her.

A modernized F-14 (which was planned) would only be second to the F-22 even now.      FIXED THAT FOR YOU.....................................................................................^

Blartch-  According to several book I've read, the Italian Fighter Planes of WW2 were works of art - literally.  They were so finely tuned, machined, and perfectly made, they took forever to build, and never got the credit they deserved for their part in the war.  The pilots probably had finely stitched leather seats and yokes, with a wine cooler behind him....

For American Planes - The P-51, the P-38 Lightning, The P-40 Curtiss Warhawk, and the Corsair were beautiful and deadly.

Speaking as a former tanker - nothing sweeter than watching a pair of A-10 Thunderbolts flying in front of you... So damn happy that those things are on our side....I know, I know-  its not a fighter jet...... but didn't it carry a pair of Sidewinders for last ditch defense?

I would also like to give honorable mention to the F106 Delta Dart. Cold War delta wing, didn't see combat, but its a simple design that does look pretty

Where I grew up I saw the Blackbird fly fairly often. I once sat at the end of the runway at Plant 42 and had it take off directly over my head. I also saw it fly on one of it's last flights with NASA. It was an absolutely amazing aircraft.

Had an uncle who flew it. Heard some amazing stories. I regret never getting to see it fly. You either grew up near Edwards, Palmdale or Beale.......

You are close. I grew up in Lancaster.

The Intruder is another one of my favorites. She may not win a beauty contest but damn she was a work horse.

I think you get a pass since SD posted a BombCat strike variant ;)

...and if we're talking attack aircraft, late cold war Brits always appealed.

Here's my favorite

I worked at the Mojave airport for a short period of time. It was in the early 2000's. There was a guy out there who had a P-51. God that Merlin engine sounded wonderful.  It was a neat place to work. BAE was converting F-4s to drones around that time. On a good day you could see multiple amazing aircraft flying. An added bonus was that Edwards was very close by and you never knew what you might see flying.

I've always liked the look of the Warthog.  Here is some rarely seen arctic camo.

Very cool.  They did low level flight like very few others.
