Last night I had three games in a row much like this, but on different maps. Every time, it was a JpE100 who would park in a corner somewhere, take shots if he could, but when his whole team was routed, would just sit for the rest of the match.

Grumble....

I think I have seen that guy. I don't recognize his name, so he might be new to tier 10, but nobody seems to have told him that JPEs are frontline tanks.

I also had 3 draws in a row this morning. Don't remember which maps, but the camping has definitely increased.

was I in this game? I've seen that guy before. He always does the same thing. Goes and parks in the most exposed spot far far away from the action. No one pays him any attention u till the end since he isn't much a threat.

Nah, you weren't there. I would have o7'd.

I figure the guy has to have gotten around. With few exceptions, tier 10 takes a while to get to, and many games played. We've all likely seen him.

I have what will probably be an unpopular theory.

Draws are the result of insufficient control of cap.

I have a theory that draws are the result of meek players not engaging the enemy.

Yes that is the proximal cause.  It results from the mental model that the only way to win is to eliminate the opposing team and that capping is bad, due to lower rewards.  Not a bad mental model, but much more likely to result in Draws.  You cannot Draw if you control cap, particularly if the opponent is a "meek player" that refuses to engage.

Eliminate the enemy to keep them from capping, not for the exp.  Cap to draw the enemy out or win by capping if they refuse.

The only way you will then have a draw is if they reset and you cannot kill them, i.e. You do not control cap.

In theory that sounds great, in practice its not really applicable. It applies to Falls Creek, or Rockfield with a T95, but aside from that the caps are too exposed and any attempts to control cap without thinning the enemy ranks gives the opposing team what Blitz researchers call the "Fish in a Barrel" effect.

I have had a plague of draws lately too. Particularly on that new winter map. I don't even think I have been to the cap on that map yet. Always a snipe fest and then a mad search for the last guy while time runs out and no one is near cap.

Controling cap does not mean being on cap or even capping.  It means that you can cap if you need to, say for example if there is some meek player someplace that refuses to engage.  In order to control cap you have to control the lines of fire on cap, through one means or another.

I often get Draws when I am dead before the end of the Battle and  I am often dead before the end of the Battle.  This is just poor play on my part.  I almost never get a Draw if I am alive.  If I do, I have screwed up.  I have successfully averted Draws by controlling cap on Oasis on multiple occasions.

Typically it plays out like this:  there is someone who thinks they are cleverly hiding someplace on the map.  I feel confident I am not going to be able to find them (slow tank/fast tank sort of thing).  I have played my game to be able to get to cap with sufficient time remaining so I can actually cap, even if I am the only player left.  I start capping.  When I start capping I also start typing messages to the opposing team that I am indeed capping.  "Dear Enemy Tank.  I am capping.  Cap, cap, capping.  Too bad you are going to lose, lose, lose.  Maybe you should reset?"  Plenty of time to type after all.

Often this draws them out.  There is a vid of ENO doing this on Mines (minus the trolling in chat, which is strictly optional and for entertainment value only).  That means the game ends with a fight.  If it does not draw them out I cap.  This means we avoid a draw.

Oasis is now particularly interesting.  You usually have some vague idea where the remaining force is likely to be.  The cap has a giant hill that shields you from one side of the map or the other.

When this fails is when they are able to reset cap and I am unable to kill them.  I am particularly unable to kill them when I am already dead, a failure on my part. Resetting however is not a result of them being meek.  There is also risk involved for me of course since I am indeed broadcasting my location.

Again, controlling cap does not mean actually capping.  It means being able to cap and successfully taking that ability away from the other team through whatever means.  It means controlling the lines of fire onto cap, etc.

I feel that if we want larger maps to be fun (Draws are not fun in most cases) then we may need to change some of our assumptions and aspects of play style.

Another draw there today. I think thats 5 draws on this map alone in one day. This is ridiculous. I HATE this map. Most have been some variation of this...

I feel like I'm doing a lot of heavy lifting. This is a good game for me.

Wow.  I am so, so horrible in my E 50M.  My worst tank.  I just can't figure it out.  I often have ok to good games in it on losing maps.

In case I wasn't clear gff, I really hate draws.  Pretty much the most frustrating way to end a game, especially after performance like you just posted.  I am only posting theories about how to avoid them as a way to preserve my mobile device from violence at my hands.

I also have a 6600+ draw in the T-54 and an 8k+ draw in the Obj 268 (the Obj draw was on.... Oasis Palms of course). Hard to forget those.
