I can’t do it.  It’s such a pile of dog droppings that rather than keep playing it I sold it.  I’d never HATED a tank before.  But dear god I hate the T20.  It’s got no armor, a so so gun and isn’t nearly fast enough to make up for either deficiency.  And to cap it all off, it’s truly fugly.

 

And yet...

 

I really want to keep moving up the American medium line.  The Pershing is meh, but I really, really want the M47 Patton.

 

Is there some little glimmer of hope for the T20?  Or should I just suck it up and accept that my next 98 thousand free XP are the only way I’m getting past it?

You play it like a medium tank. Abuse your speed, and your depression and alpha damage. It really shines against Heavies with your superb pen and alpha

I love the T20, but it’s not ur typical mid. Play it as a support tank and a ridge rider to make use of its great gun depression.  It’s a sneaky ninja not a brawler because everyone and anything will pen u

Play it like a light tank that doesn't get HE spammed and has a alpha and pen based gun.  It's the way I usually play it, and it's gotten me to love it.

Dracula obsoleted the T20 instantly when it came out, but T20 whilst a MAJOR victim of power creep, can still do OK.

 

T20 has decent alpha, 225, which is actually on par with some heavies, so you can outtrade meds, and it gets a great APCR round. Mobility actually isn't as bad as you say it is and it actually can get to key positions quickly, and the gun depression lets it work a variety of positions.

 

It's not the best tank ever, heck it's worse than most tier VIIs, but it's still playable

It won't ever SHINE when facing any tank... but it can be bearable.

 

As for the OP, the M46 isn't the prize of the line set your eyes on the superior E5 at the end of the tech tree and it'll all be worth it, sorta.

M46 basically becomes the M47 when you get the second turret.

If you're really hating it, just play it when you have a multiplier active, throw on the biggest combat XP booster you have, and pop a 1 hour premium certificate if you don't run premium time normally.  You'll be through to the Pershing before you know it.  I played about 40 games to finish it, and I wasn't even being religious about only playing it with multipliers and while using boosters.  I did free XP the turret and top gun initially though.

Wow.  I really must say I expected commiserations more than “You don’t know what you’re missing!”. 

 

My go to American before it was the Jumbo (never really did click with the Easy 8) and so I rather suppose I am more than a little biased.  I liked being able to bounce a shot I wasn’t expecting every now and again.  It’s a big step backwards in my mind.  And particularly when I compare the T20 to every other tier VII medium tank.  Heck, the Tier VI mediums of the other nations are better tanks.

 

Regardless.  Am I right in saying that folks think I should give it another try?  And use it more like a TD, because that’s kind of what it sounds like, than a medium?

I wouldnt, it need to be closer. Just follow the heavies, use them as a shield.  When u do pop out to shoot try to hit the drive wheel to track them for the heavies

I wish I could make that happen.  Every time I try either the heavies slide back and forth blocking my shots or I end up in the open and get pummeled. I guess that just means I need to be more patient?

patience and positioning are what makes the difference

Personally, I’m a fan of the T20. Any tank with speed and gun depression like it has I can work well with. It’s a major ridgeline warrior. Play it like you would the comet, just with more alpha and you should be fine.

I’m ginna recommend something crazy. When I played it a long time ago, I used the gun before the 90mm. It’s a faster firing gun similar to the comet. I felt I could do better with it personally.

While I did this in the Rudy as empathized play to improve my track and damage ability, this allies to the T20, especially with the 225 alpha. I was running with a toon mate from my clan who was being my shield, however. I would wait until the reds would find their turret, then shoot. This is good for Damage Ratio. When I was in a fight spot, I went for tracks so I could bail. When I had the chance to do both, I did. This is better in the T20 since higher alpha and less RoF, and higher pen can make those track-to-bail shots pen for damage. All around, focusing on those principles of gunnery will really help you.

the only problem with that gun is it’s lack of pen and over the last few updates pen as become so much more important
