What do you think is the best tier 8 TD? Let me know!
Full Potato Division
T28 - This steaming pile of fresh horse dung can't do anything effectively. Too slow to get anywhere in a timely manner, terrible gun arc which further compounds the poor mobility, and armor that is only strong on the front. The sides are HE-able and the butt is so weak you can play your mix tape near it and most likely cause a fire. Remember 50 100 addicts, your tank got nerfed just so this turd wouldn't die so quickly.
AMX AC mle. 48 - The French TD's are generally underwhelming, and the tier 8 variant does not disappoint in disappointing the driver. Sloped armor that can be penned easily with standard rounds and buttered with gold make this tank unviable. But why would they do that when they can shoot the large tumor on the top of your tank? With a larger profile than the T28, the sides and rear are just as HE-able. The only reason why this is above the T28 is the mobility, which is pretty decent. The mediocre weaponry is an extra kick to the groin. You will regret this purchase.
AT-15 - Slow with a cupola that is hard to hide make it difficult to utilize the fantastic DPM given to this vehicle. While it has great gun arc to help it poor out damage in certain situations, the good parts about this vehicle cease to exist. Overall, another terribly mediocre tank.
T28 Proto - A turd with a turret is still just a turd. The turret is the only redeeming factor about this vehicle compared to other tier 8 TD's. However, it is extremely tall, easy to HE from the rear, and the sides are long enough for you to easily poor out DPM. The weapon is like the T28's which is decent, but the cheeks on the turret are terrible and the tank retains its slug like mobility.
Play For Fun Division
SU-101 - Who knew a lack of depression would make anyone feel so unhappy. The tank has decent mobility, a tier X weapon with above average DPM, and slightly troll armor that will pull off the occasional bounce. For all this, the lack of the ability to manufacture shots kills the effectiveness of the SU and prevents it from being higher on this list.
RHM Borsig Waffentrager - Pre 4.2, this vehicle would have been at the top of my list, without any doubt. However, the invisible death machine is no longer the terror it used to be. While it maintains the great camo and nasty boom, the gun has been significantly nerfed in most other aspects, making the tank sometimes more of a pain to drive than a fun, silent nuke machine.
Ferdinand - The Tiger P chassis was already questionable at tier 7. What do you think happens when you move it to tier 8? The Ferdinand is the armored behemoth of a TD that fails at adequately protecting itself. The hull is a fairly easy shot if you aim and the superstructure can be penetrated with high penetration gold rounds. At least the alpha, DPM, and all other gun characteristics are strong.
Stat Padder Division
Jg 8.8 cm - If a 8.8 cm uses a 10.5cm, is it still an 8.8 cm? According to WG, apparently so. However, the new weapon and changes to premium ammo have both helped the Jag become a much better vehicle. With DPM that burns down its peers and armor that can reliably bounce most tanks at same tier and nearly everything the tier below the 8.8 has become a true mini Jagdtiger instead of being the ugly red-headed step-child. While neither the 105 or 88 has the same boom as the 120 on the big Jagdtiger, this vehicle is a decent representation of what it would be like to drive a Jagdtiger under +2/-2... circumstances that are similar to a T54 mod. 1.
ISU-152 - The original nasty dog of tier 8, the ISU 152 carries the infamous BL-10 that will punch holes through opponents with ease. Having massive 640 alpha at tier 8 coupled with penetration that is arguably overkill for it's tier, the ISU's weaponry is top notch compared to anything it will see, even when up-tiered. The camo is good, allowing the ISU to dawn a true sniper role. The reason why the tank is not higher is because the gun can troll at times, which is a very negative trait for a TD. More importantly, the armor profile is weak, and the shape of the vehicle is boxy which means your upper corners will got shot by people who you cannot shoot in return (I'm sure we have all seen this scenario at some point).
Purple Division
Jagdpanther 2 - Lord have mercy! This is the pinnacle of tier 8 tank destroyer. Sure, it sacrifices some penetration compared to the ISU, but 246 on your standard rounds is still going through almost anything you see same tier and even up tier. The DPM is so marginally less it doesn't even make a noticeable difference. What makes the JP2 a better pick than the ISU is firstly that the gun handling is noticeably better. A more consistent TD is a better TD. Shots that would donk in the ISU do not donk in the JP2. Second, the mobility is so much better than the ISU and you can even be aggressive and chase mediums! You have speed and the traverse to keep up! Lastly, the JP2 has above average gun depression at -7 and it can be utilized very well with a sloped superstructure that is a difficult penetration for any tier 8, even those using gold rounds. The JP2 is the best tier 8 TD because it harnesses the best characteristics of vehicles like the SU-101, ISU-152, and Ferdinand and rolls into a single fantastic package.
