Just to prove what an old pack rat I truly am I was looking for some stuff in my garage when I came across some of my ollllllllld comic books. Including some of the ones with the Haunted Tank (look it up ya young whippersnappers!) and it reminded me how much I love the M3A1. Heck, I must have built the model kit 5-6 times.

So I took it out for a spin this morning and it was exactly as I remembered in Blitz.  Nice little tank with a complete piece of crap gun.  Its intraclip rate of fire is ok-ish at 0.67.  But the other numbers (rounds per clip, dmg per shot, on the move dispersion, etc) are awful.  The only reason I was able to out duel a Pz. II G that jumped me was that he ran into the red line and got stuck for a moment broadside on to me with his gun facing the wrong way.  But I took so much damage the very next hit I took finished me.

This poor little bugger needs some love.  I’ve already got GLD and Improved Assembly on it and really don’t want to put any other spares into it.

What’s the secret to this tank?  It can’t out shoot anything.  The armor is only fairly effective against lower tiers.  But what’s its key?  There are too many other tanks out there that outperform it in every way.  And yet I still really want to make it work.

Typo: M8A1 and sorry, I can't help you, looks good in battle though.

Unless he means the M3 Stuart... The M8A1 doesn’t have a clip, AND has a really good gun selection.

Oh. Yeah, that would make more sense, wouldn't it?

I really enjoyed that thing. Fast, decent armor, good rof. The only negative thing I noticed was the complete and utter lack of pen.

Sigh.  I keep forgetting that just because folks play the game they may not be utter tank geeks like me.   Sorry about that.

The Blitz M3 Stuart with top turret was, historically, designated the M3A1.  The Blitz model isn’t quite accurate as the sponson .30 cal Brownings were removed almost immediately. But it’s otherwise close enough.

It’s a great little tank if there is a 0.0% chance you’ll have to carry.  The 37mm just isn’t up to that job.  It’s an epically pitiful weapon.

Particularly since the number of Tier IV tanks with actual armor is on the rise.  Heaven help you if you run into a Valentine, Matilda or AMX 40.  Odds are good that ⅔ of a clip of APCR will bounce off any aspect of that bunch even if you’ve got Calibrated Shells.

But it even if I lose money every time I roll out I’m going to make the little bastid work.  And it’s not like my average dmg and xp numbers are so good that it’ll be a noticeable hit to them. (I know the math doesn’t work that way, but give me something dammitt!)

From now until I get at least a 1st in the M3, it’ll be my go to tank for any of the low tier missions.  And I’ll drive it at least once each reset cycle.

So if you’ve got any tips or hints let me have them!  Please?

Just played 5 games in the Stuart. Four wins, each with a 3rd Class.  I’ve got to get past 3rd Class!

Dude, you’re a Datsun fan.  I guarantee you're about as old as I am if you even know about Datsun!  :great:

Oh man, where did the years go :arta:?  Say, don't I remember that the crew of the Haunted tank moved onto a new tank late in the series or am I going senile?

I want to say they ended up in a Chaffee, but I’m not really certain.  The issues I’ve got at all Stuarts.

Come on, the tech tree m3 stuart isn't THAT bad, i personally liked the m5 more, but the gun is punchy, well rounded tank if you ask me.

In no way shape or form do I think it’s a bad tank!

But the 37mm is not a drive by / snap shot gun when it comes to those armored Tier IVs or even the French Tier III Mediums.  You have to aim carefully and/or use APCR to have any chance at penetration.  And I’ve been seeing at least a pair anytime I’ve been uptiered. They’re bloody popular at the moment.  Plus even when you do punch through we’re not talking heavy amounts of damage.

Its a good little tank with a weak gun.
