I think the truth is, a lot of people like lootboxes. There is something about the whole experience that people enjoy. There is some kind of thrill involved. It's not something I can share, gambling has never had the slightest attraction for me but there's been tons of studies on the psychology of gambling and for many people it clearly pushes their buttons in some gratifying manner.

Watching people talk about crates on discord, youtube etc., I think when people see others winning they get this loss-averse feeling where they're missing out if they don't take part. Add to this the fact that many gamblers seem to be fundamentally dishonest about costs ("I bought a 5-pack and won!", doesn't mention the pack/s they bought before...) and all of a sudden it appears people are getting amazing 20k tier X tanks at a huge discount.

Saying "Don't buy crates" isn't going to work, because people will buy them regardless. Some people just love the experience whether they can admit it or not.

Am I right in thinking that these stats are all from the RU region? Out of curiosity, do they look any different for NA or other regions?

Also, any plans to share charts for lower tiers? Though I’m guessing that tier 7 in particular could be inflammatory lol.

And yet the FV215b is getting nerfed. Makes sense.

Also it still stumps me why the Emil II and Mauschen are at the top when there's not much special about either tank.

We have asked WG to clarify if that is from RU - or a weighted average of all servers.

215b was a pre-emptive nerf - with the other heavies getting hit, many of us feel WG decided the 215b would so better in the faster meta and thus decided to ensure no Unicum goes 215b clubbing -- I honestly have seen WG do a lot of knee-jerk nerfs without thought, but never a pre-emptive strike like is happening on the 215b.

Emil II and Masuchen do well when there is less Prammo fire, hence why the Regions the balance charts originate from is of great interest -- I suspect if they aren't just RU balance charts, that the weighted average means that 70% of the data is from RU and heavily skews it.

What really needs to happen is a blanket nerf to heavy view range. They've become too mobile, dangerous, and durable to have their view range at what it currently is.

Was in my Progetto 46 today when I got spotted across the map by a Mausuchen. I was just coming a little ways out of A cap on Falls Creek and he was sitting in typical heavy territory near C. Was taken aback an bit since I knew where all the enemies were and it was only three heavies left. Bit jarring when the super heavy 3/4ths the map away spots you in your low slung medium moving but not firing.

The mobility and dpm canyon between tank classes has heavily been reduced in recent years. CoDing has all but dissapeared, and now maps feel smaller then ever with heavies moving like mediums and spotting like them as well.

I notice you have not posted any actual upcoming balance adjustments here in a while, only the tank performance charts. Is there a reason for that? And is there any chance you might start that again?

And why are you nerfing tanks that aren’t even over performing? I don’t think that’s a good habit.

Potentially cool idea: a new tier XI tank. But there's only one from each country, and first you have to unlock each Tier X tank from that country and then unlock one component for the TXI from each TX. Gun from the TD, suspension/engine from the med, armor from the heavy, optics from the light and so on. Once you get a TX you can unlock the component for the TXI, and when you have all the components you get the super tank but it only plays in a tier of its own or else it'd stomp the lower tier X's. And the super tank could be modern battle tanks like the M1 Abrams and the like

seems cool if it were a special event for April Fools or something, like World of Ducks where it is it's own matchmaking and maps. I'd personally like a Sturmtiger event though!

im not going to lie, it sounds like fun (especially for me because I'd have all the Tier 11's in that case), but there's really no place for that in the game as it is.

Honestly, I think WG made the right move with a somewhat pre-emptive nerf on the 215b. Personally, I think the tank was way better than the charts showed it to be. But even with that put aside, they couldn't simply just nerf the E5 and leave the 215b untouched. Everyone would have just gravitated towards that to fill the role of a juiced up medium tank with heavy tank HP and super consumables to make it as fast as a med and able to take as many shots as a super heavy.
However, this whole issue with making heavy tanks into functional mediums with almost no downsides was born from the super consumables and WG deciding to foolishly balance tank statistics on them.

Yeah, to be honest the FV nerf isnt super noticeable anyway. Now the E5, that was a bit too harsh. They could have just removed the super consumables but instead they had to make the turret traverse like a superheavy, and massacre the DPM so it's the same as the new 60TP.

Isn't that a bit too much? You surely don't see any more E5's in the game much anymore.

This year, we've been designing and implementing a new tank balance approach. As a result, systemic balance changes on Tiers V–VII were made. We've evaluated the outcome of those changes, seen them working properly and decided to apply the same method at Tiers VIII–X. Now, it's time to share some details and explain how everything works.

The thing is, we compare tank parameters and change them depending on certain vehicle's gameplay role. Currently, we're using the following pool of parameters (so called benchmarks):
  • HP count;
  • Overall protection or effective armor cross-section (is defined by minimum armor surface area in m² certain shells can penetrate);
  • Fire power;
  • Single shot damage;
  • Standard shell penetration;
  • Gun dispersion;
  • Aiming time;
  • Max speed;
  • Power-to-weight ratio;
  • Traverse speed;
  • View range.

Every tank has its own gameplay role (used internally) which depends on a vehicle type and its key characteristics:
  • Devastator (causes huge damage in a short period of time);
  • Dreadnaught (blocks and absorbs damage);
  • Stormtrooper (first-line heavy);
  • Cavalry (maneuverable tank, effective in flanking);
  • Sniper (shoots from long distance and keeps that distance);
  • Close assault (heavy with weaker armor but more accurate gun than in a Stormtrooper);
  • Close support (well-armored TD, fights in short distance);
  • Long support (ambush TD with an accurate gun and no armor);
  • Half-heavy (Cavalry/Stormtrooper hybrid, less mobile than Cavalry and has lower firepower than a Stormtrooper);
  • Scout (fast tank with low armor protection, provides initial spotting).

There are vital benchmarks for every gameplay role we focus on primarily. For example, a Dreadnought needs enough HP and small penetrable area, Sniper's efficiency depends on penetration, accuracy, and aiming time. While comparing tanks within certain gameplay roles, we pay attention on benchmark fluctuations. If a certain parameter deviates from the range, we adjust it appropriately.

This approach also works for new tech lines. Considering the desired gameplay features of those new tanks, we set their parameters according to benchmark range.

What happened to the good old balance charts? At the moment, we don't plan to share them since those data are no longer determinant when the decisions are made. However, we're studying other options to provide visual representations of vehicle battle efficiency and balance characteristics for you.

But the Balance charts where still interesting to see.
  Would there be any way - in the interest of curiosity (and transparency) to post them anyways.
