I was lucky enough to receive a Chieftain/T95 (which for simplicity I'll call it the CT95), from the winter fair supergame. I have played approximately 30 battles in it and am downright disappointed. I am barely maintaining a 40% winrate in it, which contradicts my 61% overall winrate.
The CT95 has a turret that features over 250mm of frontal armor, and a well sloped 80mm upper front plate. It can move at approximately 40kph, and has a 90mm gun that fires in 6.6 sec stock.
On the downside, it has a large, unprotected miniturret on the roof, a paper thin back hull, and a side armor profile that makes it unable to angle or sidescrape effectively. With the weak miniturret, I am left with a vehicle that seems to be unable to effectively hulldown or sidescrape.
Ignoring the fact that it is labeled as a heavy tank, it seems to play very similar to the Centurion 1. They share the same top speed, have similar DPM, Pen, gun depression, and Accuracy. I would favor the Cent's turret, as the CT95's turret weak spot is large and easy to hit, while the extreme front armor slope is superior to the Cent's front plate, on paper.
I am by no means the best Centurion player, but, early in the grind I had maintained roughly a 55%w/r, currently at 52%. I know the Centurion is best played in second line support, utilizing the accuracy and ROF. I use the strong turret to my advantage hull down. I do not enjoy playing the Cent due to the lack of protection or mobility, and it usually gathers dust.
I extended what I know about the Centurion to attempt to play the CT95 early on.
Upon realizing that I am unable to play the new CT95 effectively, I switched back to the Cent 1 to determine if it's the MM, or my play.
Although I did lose a majority of the recent battles, I exceeded the vehicle's old average damage most battles, which I believe is a result of MM being unfavorable to tanks that follow the Cent's form. Playing the Ceanervon?, Panther II, and stock STB-1 seemed to confirm my thoughts.
Which does not appear well for my new toy. I have an early average damage that's greater than some of my tier 8 tanks with higher winrates, but I also feel like it's unable to deal damage as effectively as the Cent 1, which results in me being unable to carry.
It gets focus fired like no other tank I have yet played, and I have noticed a "smarter" playerbase, with many reds playing behind cover and aiming effectively. Greens remain morons.
The results of these battles tended to be far from close, a majority of them being 7-1 or 7-2 games, so even if I had been more effective, the loss was guaranteed.
I had originally believed it would fit my heavium play style and would become a favorite immediately. I still have hopes for this, but I am now aware it will never maintain a 50% w/r, which is, for good reason, my benchmark for playing tanks for fun.
With the first 30 battles being so miserable, I would assume that once the "honeymoon period" wares off, it would be downright unplayable.
I am looking for tips, pointers, or even some assistance to carry me to a 50% w/r so I can put it in the attic until something changes.
