Are any of them useful? I have the impression that they're just another useless grind...

Cammo and any of the others that improve the handling of the tank

Camo, smooth ride, smooth turret traverse, smooth turn or traverse (whatever it’s called, the TD one), clutch braking, close combat master, repairs, robustness.  All those are pretty high priority IMO.

Close combat master...increases turret traverse if there's an enemy within 30m.  Its the anti-COD skill.  Smooth ride and smooth turret traverse.....decreases dispersion while moving and traversing.

A good heavy driver knows how to make shots bounce off their armor, how to use cover while fighting at the front, when to get out there and just take the shot to protect his team, to keep the reds attention focused so his team can flank, and to consistently do damage while all of that happens.

Honestly all of them are good. They are permanent and apply to every tank. There are no crew skills that aren’t helpful. Depending on your playstyle, some may be more beneficial in the short term but getting them all to level 7 is a solid idea.

And they’re not really a grind since you don’t really have to do anything extra to grind them; every battle you play automatically puts XP towards crew skills unless you already have a type maxed out

I agree with this one right here^^^^^^
I've reached a point in my life where I've decided I'm not old. I'm actually 20, but with shipping and handling!

I can't tell if this is sarcasm.

Most important? Nah

I don't have the post in front of me, but somebody did all of the math for "Mentor" and found that it saves you about 100 games to get your crew skills up to level VI (the highest at the time). It was something like 19900 games instead of 20000.

EDIT: I should clarify that those maths were based on grinding Mentor all of the way to tier VI before touching the other medium crew skills, which may have affected the numbers
