Running at high speeds, the leopard 1 is one of the fastest tanks at tier X. It also has an amazing gun, however many people see it as a bad tank and one of the worst of it's tier mostly for it's armor. We have seen that the grille has bad armor, yet however is one of the best tank destroyers. Is the same story with the leo? Or is it truly a bad tank?

Gun:

With the best accuracy of any medium tank (the same of E50M and t62a) a really nice gun depression and elevation, and the best medpm of any tier X medium tank that's carrying a 105 mm gun, the Leopard 1 gun is the best gun of any medium tank at tier X. It can reload quickly be accurate and do enough damage. The aim time is bad, but it's the only problem in the only problem of the gun.

Armor:

The real problem of the tank: 70/35/25 of flat hull armor, the tracks dont give any spaced armor. And it's worst with the turret, 52/60/60; the gun mantlet is huge, but just like the tracks it doesnt gives any extra space armor. And the tank is really big, meaning that It's an easy target for all tanks he can meets. The tank can't bounce (if you bounce you are really lucky, or the ennemy player is noob).

Movility:

It has the second best engine of all medium and light tanks at tier X, and some really nice ground resistances. Making it one of the fastest tanks in the game. The problem: The batchat 25t, it's just more fast than the leo and way more dangerous.

Playstyle:

Due to his lack of armor, the tank cant choose an aggresive playstyle like other mediums can. It can try the job of a scout tank ONLY if there isn't an ennemy batchat (the french will spot him way before he even finds a spot position). After the spot, the leo can only do well as a support tank, it has enough firepower to help the heavy tanks at long distances. You can try to flank, but at your own risk, if the leo is caught by another medium or tank destroyer it will almost always lose. The real strenght of the tank is at long distances, and using your speed to relocate.

Difficulty: Advanced

Gun: 5/5

Armor: 0.5/5

Movility: 4/5

Pros: best gun, really fast

Weakness: batchat 25t, really big, no armor, easy to hit it's ammorack.

Conclusion:

The Leo has the best gun of any medium, and it's pretty fast, however it's armor and huge size dont let him use his engine to it's full capacity. The tank has problems scouting, mostly against the french light tanks. The tank cant also flank, because it can be spotted and the td's will destroy him, or another medium tank. It seems that this medium cant do anything but a support role and that's why the tank is one of the worst mediums at it's tier. Now don't get me wrong, the tank is really fun to play and in his confort area it's excelent. However when he isnt in this area it cannot perform like other mediums. The tank sacrifices a lot in order to have such an amazing gun, and it isnt dynamic. The first rule of a medium tank is to be dynamic, so the leo breaks this rule and therefore it's the worst medium.

If they added just more turret armor, the tank will be amazing.

Any thoughts? Agree or disagree? I Will read your feedback ;)

Next week, the batchat 25t

Several inaccuracies in this guide:

  1. Grille is the worst tank destroyer at tier X.
  2. Its aim time is fine.
  3. Both the gun mantlet and the tracks count as spaced armor and behave as such against HESH/HE.
  4. It's faster than the Batchat.
  5. Red Batchat or not, the Leo is still an effective spotter. Firstly, the Leo gets to spotting positions first; secondly, unlike the Batchat it is able to use its gun depression to actually shoot a target it spots; and thirdly, no early-game spotting route of the Leopard would intersect the view range of the Batchat if they are both driving from spawn to a spotting bush.
  6. If it encounters a red medium, the Leo will spot its enemy first and therefore win the brawl. And literally any medium in the game will easily beat a TD in a 1v1.
  7. "Isn't dynamic." No, just no.
  8. Not exactly an inaccuracy, but have you even played the Leo?

And the most glaring inaccuracy: yes, the Leo can flank. If you say a Leo can't flank, then by extension neither can any other medium at tier X because they're all slower and have poorer camo values. So is the Batchat the only tank at tier X that can flank? Seriously? If a Leo driver spends the whole game sniping, then he wastes half his tank's potential and is not a good Leopard player.

Yea I agree with Urgle, this is really inaccurate.

This tank is great, flanking and spotting are its specialties. I disagree that the BC is a huge threat, it has worse speed and armor, can’t get the same shots off as the Leo, and it also has the huge disadvantage of the reload. If a player can count to three, a medium can easily wreck a lone BC on the flank. I feel like you are a jealous BC fanboy.

From reading this, it sounds like you've never played the tank before.

Strangely he made an accurate guide to the Maus. With pics and everything. So yeah, maybe he never play the tank. :sceptic:

I make these guides with a group of people that on average have 65 of winr with more than 10k battles, they know how to play perfectly each of these tanks and they know the lucky points and the weak points of these tanks.

If your team came up with "The Leo can't flank and is hard countered by the Batchat", you should find a new group of people.

Leo is the ultimate flanker and sniper. Dpm plus pen plus gun depression - paper thin armor = high risk high skill high reward tank.
Almost 2k battles in the Leo 1 and yes I fear batchats, but also it’s easy math. If your hp pool is greater that his damage potential (900) then he ain’t going to out dpm you. Know thy self (and advisary) this game is just problem solving.
You’ve got the giddy up to push on ANY tank in the game and COD them. Not to mention the DPM to burn down just about anything.
The Leo 1 is a good tank. Not easy but a good tank

1) yes I hate batchats they are so annoying they shoot you then run away and you can't friggen chase them or else the enemy tanks turn you into swiss cheese.

2) from experience, this tank is (i would say) one of the best 1v1 tanks in the game. If you can get an enemy in a 1v1 situation, you can win as long as you don't mess up. You can also use your maneuverability to engage multiple heavies at the same time, if you want.
